Fire has burned 15,000 acres
WHEELER, TEXAS -- Fire crews continue to fight the massive wildfire that broke out near Wheeler in the Texas Panhandle.
We are told that the fire is now fifty-percent contained and has burned around 15,000 acres. Fire crews spent the day mopping up hot spots and making sure the part that was still burning didn't get out of control. The residents of Wheeler were asked to leave their homes Saturday afternoon because of the threat from the fire. Fire officials are still assessing damage and loss of livestock from the wildfire.
The fire destroyed over twenty barns, an R-V, along with eight homes, five of which were occupied.
Fire officials say that all of Texas will be under critical wildfire danger again on Thursday.
