U.S. -- Jewish people across the panhandle are celebrating the first night of Passover. The celebration, which started at sundown, tells the story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt.
God inflicted ten plagues upon the Egyptians with the tenth plague being the killing of firstborn sons by the Angel of Death. The term passover refers to the fact that God "passed over" the houses of the Jews.
"We're celebrating this light that god put in the world and passover is to remind us that no matter how dark it gets, we can always count on the light of god to redeem his people," said Archie Hunniecut, an Elder from Mayie Hayim in Amarillo.
