To raise money for malnourised and abused horses
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Folks at a dinner and fundraiser Sunday received a very special guest - in the form of a horse. The Humane Society hosted a jazz benefit to help raise money for malnourished and abused horses across the panhandle.
It said the economy has added to that problem, since the price of feed has gone up, it's seeing more cases of abuse. The people involved said we're living in horse country and relying on them to do lots of work, so it's important to take care of the animals.
"They're the tools we use to settle the West, they're more than just an animal, and if we don't preserve them, we're the ones that tamed them, and brought them, it's our responsibility," said Andrea Soliz.
In less than a year, the Humane Society has used $30,000 to take care of 66 horses.
