AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The man accused of murdering an Amarillo couple this weekend now faces more charges.
On Monday, the Randall County District Attorney's office filed capital murder charges against 26-year-old Wilbert Banks for the murder of Stephanie Beard and Daniel Brittain, both 24, in addition to the murder charge filed on Saturday.
Banks was arraigned on Sunday and bond was set at $1 million.
An additional aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was filed on Banks for his alleged assault against Natasha Colis, his former girlfriend.
Early Saturday morning, Amarillo police were called to 3010 Westhaven on a report of shots fired. Officers found the two victims shot to death inside the home.
Witnesses in the home identified Banks as the shooter. Amarillo police, with the help of the SWAT team and Negotiators took Banks into custody a few hours later after he was found hiding at 1303 Hermann.
A medium caliber automatic weapon, thought to be the murder weapon, was recovered by Special Crimes on Saturday.
According to police, the autopsy on both Ms. Beard and Mr. Brittain is on going and no preliminary results are available at this time.
