OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A top saddle bronc rider from Geary has been charged with violating the state's horse dentistry law.
Bobby Griswold was charged Tuesday with a felony count of practicing veterinary medicine without a license because prosecutors say he performed illegal dental work on a horse on March 4.
He also faces two misdemeanor counts of illegal possession of two drugs used by veterinarians.
The 41-year-old Griswold is thought to be the first person charged under a law passed last year that made it a felony for a non-veterinarian to perform horse dentistry unless that person is working for a licensed veterinarian.
Griswold has said the law is absurd and joined others in lobbying lawmakers earlier this month to pass a law so that people who perform horse dentistry can resume their livelihoods.
