What does this mean for dealers and those who own Pontiacs?
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Facing a federal deadline of June 1st, GM announced that they are discontinuing Pontiac, so what does this mean for dealers and those who own Pontiacs?
The timeline according to the dealer we spoke to is unclear but within the year you won't be able to buy a brand new Pontiac.
Greg Lair, a local dealer says that parts and service will be available in the future and that there shouldn't be any concerns about buying a Pontiac.
"They shouldn't have any reservations in purchasing a Pontiac or any GM car, they're going to get the same amount of service and care they've always got here and I guarantee they'll never have a problem with their Pontiacs," said Lair.
About 50% of Lair's current car stock is Pontiacs, but Lair assumes that GM will expand the Buick line to compensate.
"The American manufacturers are struggling, people ought to try to support their American brands and the local businesses and try to help them survive," said Lair.
Currently Greg Lair Pontiac, Buick, GMC, will provide service and parts on Saturns, another discontinued line.
