Storms pound the area
HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston motorists are facing a horror show of a commute today. They're confronted by flooded highways and feeder roads keeping them from making it to work, and in some cases from returning home.
The rain just keeps on falling from Houston to Bryan-College Station after up to seven inches of rain reportedly fell overnight, including four inches in an hour in some areas.
The disrupted morning commute prompted some Houston-area school districts, including Cypress-Fairbanks and Spring Branch, to cancel classes for the day. It also prompted Houston school district officials to postpone the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills from today until tomorrow.
There have been some high-water rescues of motorists this morning, but no injuries were reported.
The rains came a day after tornadoes left damage in Corsicana and near Austin and Victoria.
