ALAMO, Texas (AP) - Investigators say doctors offer little hope for a 16-year-old girl's recovery after she was hit in the back of the head with a thrown crowbar.

Alamo police Sgt. Lupita Valdez says the girl was hurt Friday night when she was caught in the middle of a fight between two gangs of boys at a house in Alamo. Valdez says witnesses told investigators that the girl was not the intended target of the crowbar, which they say was thrown by a 19-year-old man.

She tells The Monitor of McAllen that the girl remains in critical condition and on life support at McAllen Medical Center with a skull fracture. An aggravated assault warrant is being issued for the 19-year-old suspect.

No identities have been released.
