Ten cases negative

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The following report has been released from Amarillo Health Officials.

Local health officials report a total of 20 suspected cases in the Potter/Randall area. There are 61 confirmed cases in Texas. The Public Health Department also received information on test results from the state lab today. Out of 20 suspect cases, lab reports confirmed ten suspect cases are negative. Four suspect cases are pending. Six cases were unable to be confirmed. "Some tests were unable to be processed secondary to technical problems with packaging or transit," explains Dr. Todd Bell, Public Health Authority.

Dr. Bell continues to state, "In spite of the negative test results to date, we will continue to monitor absenteeism rates in the schools and flu activity in the community. We have not seen a significant increase in illness in our community. This appears to be a mild respiratory illness, and patients who are traditionally at risk from seasonal influenza will continue to be at risk."

Local health officials remind citizens to continue practicing good hygiene. For more information please call the Public Health Department at (806) 351-2570.

Local emergency management officials continue to participate in the statewide emergency operations conference calls.
