CORONA, N.M. (AP) - A bus driver wanted in connection with a deadly crash in Torrance County last December has been caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working at a crossing in El Paso, Texas.
The Torrance County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that 36-year-old Jesus Esquivel of El Paso remains in custody pending his extradition to New Mexico. Esquivel is expected to be returned next week to face charges of vehicular homicide, aggravated injury with a vehicle and reckless driving.
The charges stem from a Dec. 26 bus accident that killed two women and injured nearly four dozen other passengers.
The bus, owned by El Paso-based Los Paisanos bus company, was traveling on U.S. 54 north of Corona when the driver lost control in a construction zone and the bus flipped.
