CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - A 34-year-old Carlsbad woman faces embezzlement charges after being accused of taking more than $2,200 in Girl Scout cookie money.

Emma Fugate pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count of embezzlement under $500 and one count of embezzlement over $500 but under $2,500.

A criminal complaint in magistrate court says the Zia Girl Scout Council notified Carlsbad police last month it was missing $2,263 in cookie sales and that the exact amount was deposited in Fugate's personal account at the same time money should have gone into the Girl Scout account.

The complaint says copies of Fugate's bank records obtained under a search warrant confirmed the dates of two deposits matching the amounts missing from the Girl Scouts.
