Energy Department says Pantex Plant could be full by 2014
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- We spoke with officials at Pantex to get a response to an Energy Department audit that said the plant could reach full capacity in 2014.
Site Manager Steven Erhart says, if dismantlement of nuclear warheads increases, as President Obama proposes, the year 2014 will be a "tight" year, but the plant is prepared to be open to change to continue its mission.
Erhart said "Dismantlement at Pantex is nothing new. What is new, is the rate at which we're asked to do that. So right now we're studying the options that might come to us. If the rate does get too high there might be an issue there, a storage issue related to the center pits."
Erhart added that the increase in demand for Pantex, should give those who work at the plant some needed job security.
