Investing your money may be intimidating, but there are ways to keep yourself safe
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- With investment scam, after investment scam being uncovered, you may feel like investing could be a bad idea. One local insurer says, now is a good time to invest--you just have to make sure you know who you're investing with.
Licensed insurance agent Tim Money says there are a few things to keep in mind when you are picking a legitimate business.
Money says a legitimate business will never ask you to write checks to your investor's own name--they should encourage you to write checks to the business, not the person.
Another way to protect yourself, is to avoid high pressure sales--you should always take the time to think about where your money is going.
And remember, that if it sounds too good to be true--it probably is.
"Go beyond a friendship, or a handshake and a smile," Money says, "because when you're working with something that you've worked long and hard for, the do diligence for yourself, is to verify where your money is being directed,"
Money also said that an honest business, is going to be an open book--you won't have to dig to find all the details you want, because the business will make them readily available.
