CANYON, TEXAS -- Family, friends and others just wanting to say "thank you" gathered at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon on Tuesday to honor Dr. Matthew Houseal.

Houseal was given military honors, and the traveling Liberty Bell rang in remembrance, along with a motorcycle brigade honor.

Houseal was killed May 11, 2009, in Camp Liberty, Iraq, when Sgt. John M. Russell killed a total of five people.

Houseal is survived by a wife and seven children.

The family suggested that memorials be sent to a benefit fund set up for the Houseal children at Amarillo National Bank.
