AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The employment rate in the Panhandle actually decreased for the month of April to 4.1% That means Amarillo officially has the lowest unemployment rate in Texas.
So what's the reason for this number? Well we talked to the director of the Panhandle Workforce Solutions and he said it's partly because of seasonal hiring, but also has to do with the fact that when people get work, they tend to stick with the job for a longer period of time, instead of moving around.
"Were blessed to not have things like the financial markets that have collapsed up in the northwest -- were not losing jobs in that industry, um, we're not focused on one industry, where a big impact cam make a big different so we have diversity in our job market," said Trent Morris, the director for Workforce Solutions.
All this good news just reminds you to be careful about perceiving what the national numbers are, because they are not always the same for our area.
