Scouts honor each soldier's grave with a flag
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Memorial Park was filled with American flags, thanks local boy and girl scout troops.
The scouts marked every soldier's grave with an American flag, this weekend so that more than 1,500 flags flew for the Memorial Day services.
Memorial Park General Manager Travis Rigdon says high-lighting our soldiers reminds us of the true meaning of the day.
"Memorial Day began as Decoration Day," Rigdon said, "Families would place flags and actually place memorials on the graves of their fallen heroes, so it's largely a cemetery related holiday to truly honor those who gave the final sacrifice for our freedoms."
Each soldier from Amarillo whose life has been lost since last year's Memorial Day was also honored at the service.
