Classes start July 6th

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- TheLone Star Dance Academy, the official school of the Lone Star Ballet, will offer Summer Intensive Workshops starting July 6. The classes will be held at the Academy, located at 3218 Hobbs, and run thru July 25.

From 6-year-olds and up, a diversified schedule from internationally-known instructors offers ballet, modern, Hip Hop, tap, jazz, Broadway Theatre and more.

Instructors for the Intensive include W. Earle Smith, artistic director of Madison Ballet; David Taylor, artistic director of the David Taylor Dance Theatre; Rachel McSween of Ailey II; Leslie Hatchard of the Broadway Dance Center in Dallas; and Roxann Seaton Wyer and Tammy Elsner of Lone Star Ballet.

"It is fabulous that we can invite world-renowned choreographers/instructors to share their knowledge and expertise in a variety of dance disciplines with our dancers and area dancers," says director of dance, Vicki McLean. "I have always been involved with different dance styles. It's great to be able to teach and/or perform different styles. Today's dancer must understand and perform the various techniques to further the enjoyment of dance and possibly their careers. Plus, dancers love to be seen! Applause is like the heartbeat for a performer. We have two performances during the Intensive. I love presenting what our dancers have learned in this summer program. It is such great fun!"

Academy Director Crystal Bertrand is looking forward to the dancers experiencing something different that is near and dear to her heart. "I have danced and taught many of these forms of dance for most of my life and I can't wait for our dancers to explore other dance styles. This should be a remarkable workshop for area dancers."

Classes are Monday through Saturday, with two outdoor performances; one at noon on the Square on Wednesday, July 22, and the final show on Saturday, July 25, at Sam Houston Park. Special group rates and hotel discounts are available for the attendees of the Intensive.

The Summer Intensive also offers outside activities including a swimming party, trip to Wonderland Park and attendance at "TEXAS," the outdoor musical drama in Palo Duro Canyon. Lunch and snacks are provided throughout each day of the Intensive.

With the addition of satellite academies in Borger, Dumas and Hereford this year, summer-themed camps are available in one-week intervals for students in those communities.

The themes for this year are Fairytale Fantasy, Cheer-ific Dance Fun and Camp Rock Star are geared toward students ages three and older. Ballet technique classes are also available at the summer-themed camps. Dancers from all over the Panhandle are invited to attend the Summer Intensive in Amarillo.
