CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO -- Clovis police say they discovered the body of a man in a vacant house shortly before noon today after another man called headquarters to report an aggravated battery at the address.

Capt. Patrick Whitney said the discovery at the home on 14th Street near Rencher is being called a "suspicious death."

He said it appears the man had been dead at least a day.

Whitney said investigators with the Major Crimes Unit are questioning the caller and others.

Whitney declined to speculate on a possible cause of death, pending an autopsy and results of the ongoing investigation.

Whitney said while identification was found on the body, police are still attempting to make a positive ID through forensic methods, such as dental records.

Neighbors in the area said they didn't believe anyone was living in the house, which is posted with no tresspass signs.
