AMARILLO, TEXAS -- They're drilling at Ridgecrest Park in Amarillo But for what?

ProNews 7 decided to get to the bottom of it.

With the low levels at Lake Meredith, City officials searched for water sources near existing pipelines and infrastructure.

Turns out there is some Ogallalla water right under the park and several others in town.

City of Amarillo Director of Utilities, Emmett Autrey said these water wells will help tide us over until the completion of a new Potter County well field, set to open in 2011.

Similar water wells are going in at Belmar Park, John Stiff Park, and three others across town.
