Construction begins on a multi-million dollar project
DUMAS, TEXAS -- If you live in Dumas, you'll soon be able to drive right over the BNSF railroad tracks on Highway 87.
The groundbreaking for the new bridge was today.
The multi-million dollar project, will stretch out over 900 feet across the highway and will be 26 feet above the tracks.
Dumas City Commissioners, the mayor, and other esteemed guests from TxDOT and local residents, were there for the groundbreaking on the project.
Officials say that because of the amount of traffic, the project could be slow moving but residents will be relieved when the project is complete.
The mayor of Dumas, Mike Milligan, still wants to be mindful of how the construction will affect residents.
"It's going to happen," he said, "and like he said, it's been 10 years and it needs to happen. But we need to take care of the people who are being affected by it."
