Amarillo's second tea party will focus on education, the constitution, and patriotism
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- On April 15th, appropriately on tax day, around one thousand folks gathered at the Potter county courthouse, and the Post Office to voice concerns about taxes, and government spending. Now with Independence Day just a couple of days away another tea party protest is scheduled, but this one will focus more on education, the constitution, and patriotism.
A variety of entertainment, speakers, children's activities, and educational programs will be a part of the Amarillo Tea Party.
"There's a variety of topics that are listed in our Independence Day tax protest, in the mission statement about what we're for and what we're against, so those speak for themselves, we could go off on a tangent about fifty different issues, but in this particular case, this tea party is about the constitution, patriotism, and those things we can do to make the changes that are necessary in this country," said Jodi Maner, Amarillo Tea Party Member and Co-Coordinator.
Upwards of thirteen hundred tea parties are going to happen across the country this Independence Day, and in Texas around fifty or more will take place.
Maner went on to say that this protest will be different than the one back in April, "This thing will educate people, give them resources, we'll give them petitions to sign, and avenues to utilize to make the changes that they want to make,"
"This isn't a Raw! Raw! let's tear down certain individuals in this three hour event, it's about up lifting messages, it's about patriotism to the United States of America, it's about honoring the founders of the constitution, it's about enjoying one another's company while sharing those up lifting and inviting messages," said Maner.
The Amarillo Tea Party will be held at the Rex Baxter building, located at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds. The event runs from 11 AM to 2 PM on Independence Day.
