Community colleges like Amarillo College, could get billions
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- 12 Billion dollars could be headed to the ledgers of community colleges across America, including our own Amarillo College.
The money would be separated into several parts, 9 billion would go to challenge grants and drop out rates, half a billion would go toward online education, and the remaining 2.5 billion would be used for renovation.
Amarillo College's Acting President Paul Matney says Community Colleges have needed funding attention for a while.
"Community Colleges have been on the forefront kind of in the trenches you might say, for new jobs, for many many years," Matney said, "and this announcement today will really enhance our ability to train the workforce for the future."
Matney says the funds could be used to help further AC's solar and wind energy programs, and other jobs of the future.
"It will help us teach displaced workers, it will help us train jobs for the future and with persistence and retention of students, it will help in the development of online classes, too. So it's quite a comprehensive package."
