AMARILLO, TEXAS -- TxDOT and contracting crews have been very busy lately in and around Amarillo. Pronews Seven has an update on several of those projects and a preview of some major construction on the horizon.

Monday, drivers eastbound on I-40 found some congestion between Washington St. and Ross St. this was some minor maintenance. Crews are patching the center lane in both eastbound and westbound lanes in this area, but should be finished by Tuesday.

The I-27 overlay project is nearing completion, but drivers can expect some intermittent lane closures the next couple of weeks as crews finish the bridge joints between the interchange and 45th St.. This project will be completely finished by the middle of next month.

Two bridges of interest, FM 2219 and the 24th St. bridge near Thompson park are both currently laying down the decks, and both of these projects are set to be completed by mid fall. The bridge at 2219 is actually ahead of schedule at this time.

On the horizon, crews are finishing the concrete barrier eastbound on I-40 near Grand St. this project when finished will mark the beginning of another major overlay project. This project will include both eastbound and westbound lanes from Arthur to Eastern St. This overlay project will cause closures of up to two lanes at a time, and will hopefully be complete by mid September.

TxDOT wants to remind drivers to be safe and cautious when driving through these work zones.

"People need to be very careful in work zones, they need to slow down, we had a lot of crashes in that I-27 work zone, I would hate to see that in the I-40 work zone when we start doing the overlay, so just slow down, pay attention, and you'll get through it just fine," said Paul Braun, TxDOT Spokesman.
