"Get your kicks on route 66" program brings FED economist to West Texas A&M university
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A senior economist from the Federal Reserve of Dallas, visited West Texas A&M's alumni banquet facility for the "Get your kicks on route 66" program, a statewide event for teachers.
Bill Gilmer, spoke to a packed house of teachers and presented "Taking the Pulse of the U.S. Economy" a program geared towards the national economy, what led to the current recession, and indicators of how the economy is starting to rebound.
"I think I bring good news, I think we're coming to the end of that recession and we hope by this fall we can be talking about a national economy that is growing again," said Bill Gilmer, Vice President and Senior Advisor for the Federal Reserve of Dallas.
Gilmer's presentation was a portion of a larger program that included lectures comparing the recession to the depression, an examination of the West Texas economy, the history of the Panhandle's economy, and after the luncheon a panel discussion by business leaders about what drives the West Texas economy.
