AMARILLO, TEXAS -- ProNews 7 has learned that two Amarillo Health organizations have withdrawn from Harrington Regional Medical Center Incorporated. They are Baptist Saint Anthony's Health System and the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center.
Working with the Amarillo Independent, ProNews 7 has obtained two letters dealing with that decision. One of them is from a BSA Vice President to HRMCI's Interim President Steve Gens.
That official said BSA hoped the medical center and the Amarillo Area Foundation would work out a transition of the center's assets and use undeveloped land around the hospitals better, but because it doesn't seem that will happen, and because membership in the corporation is expensive, BSA decided to pull out.
In his response, Gens says he is saddened by that decision, and he added that that means, two months from now, BSA employees would not be able to use the Hagy Child Care Center as their child care provider. Hagy is owned and maintained by HRMCI.
BSA's response to that is "The issue is with the operations of the corporation, not with the good care provided by Hagy Child Care center."
We also asked Kaytie Martin of Northwest Texas Hospital for comment on all this ,all Kaytie would say is, "At this time Northwest is still a member. Right now anything about their future decisions is proprietary."
