AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- The Texas Workforce Commission has rejected about a third of the jobless claims last year and 27% of the first half of this year.
According to both the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express News, more than half a million people were getting unemployment benefits in June, and the agency rejected over 150,000 claims in the first six months of 2009 before appeals.
State eligibility standards are the most common reason for the denials.
TWC Officials say some people get lost in the paperwork as the program is based on a 40 year old model.
