AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The city of Amarillo held a dedication for its new Greenways Park and Nature Area.
Eddie Scott developed the Greenways addition, and donated 53 acres to the city for this park to happen. This is the 63rd park in Amarillo.
It will have a walking trail, a play area for children, and a playa lake. Director Larry Offerdahl says having the playa lake is important. Offerdahl said, "the playa lake really provides a lot of recharge for the aquifer here and also provides excellent habitat for birds and wildlife that inhibit a playa. This is a very important project for the city of Amarillo, and we hope to continue these types of projects in the future."
A $500,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife provided a lot of the money needed to build the park.
