State agents and local deputies have raided two large farms containing what they estimate to be about 15,000 marijuana plants.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- A statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety says DPS troopers and deputies from the Ellis and Navarro counties' sheriff's offices conducted the raids on Thursday.

According to the DPS statement, the Navarro County plots were a half-miles from Interstate 45 in Rice. The statement says the plants were concealed and irrigated by miles of pipes running from stock tanks on the property. The DPS says the Ellis County plots were just south of an Ellis County airport.

The statement quotes investigators as saying the crops "were sophisticated and well-established." There was no word on who owns the land.
