A Parker County sheriff's deputy and a suspect were wounded in an exchange of gunfire as officers tried to serve an arson warrant.

WEATHERFORD, TEXAS (AP) -- Sheriff Larry Fowler says the deputy was shot in the leg early Wednesday when the barricaded suspect fired through a door. Deputies returned fire, wounding the suspect who had tried to hide in a shed, in a rural area near Weatherford.

Both men were transported to hospitals. Fowler says the deputy was conscious and is expected to recover. Details on the wounded suspect were not immediately released.

Weatherford is about 30 miles west of Fort Worth.
