Looking into AISD's "no one in, no one out" policy during school lockdowns
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The term "school lockdown" raises alarm for some parents and in situations like yesterday's where three different schools in Amarillo were under a lockdown, some parents think they should still have total access to their kids, and are frustrated by the district's "no one out, no one in" policy.
Others, trust the school's security measures.
We took the time to speak with folks on both sides of the issue.
Communications Coordinator for AISD, Holly Shelton said, "Unfortunately the practice of a lockdown is meant to secure that building, and if we were to start letting one or two children out or in, then that building is no longer secure and we can't guarantee who's in and who's out.>
Attorney Jeff Blackburn feels differently, "You know what, those are the same reasons that have been advanced by every tyrant and every bad form of government that there has even been. It's always about 'security' and 'safety,' it's always about looking out of the common and greater good that's the way it works that's always been the argument. "
Yesterday's were the only three AISD school lockdowns this year, there were four total last year.
