The holiday season is upon us, but will it help with high unemployment numbers, as well as economy?

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Holiday season 2009 is coming up fast, and with unemployment numbers in our state steadily rising, we asked Texas Workforce Solutions experts if the part-time jobs offered because of the season will do anything to help lower those numbers.

Panhandle Workforce Solutions Director Trent Morris said, "Seasonal hiring is an important part of the economy, but the one thing it doesn't have is a huge impact on is unemployment rates. Many of those jobs are part time, and do not offer benefits to the employees."

We called around and found out that Target and Wal-Mart are already hiring for the holidays, but some anchor stores in Westgate Mall are not planning on hiring extra employees, instead they're planning on giving current employees more hours.
