AMARILLO, TX -- The ambulance you take when there's an emergency could be under new ownership. Right now, the service in Amarillo is run by Northwest Texas Hospital.
We've been reporting a nationwide company called American Medical Response has plans to take it over. But what does that mean for you?
There has been some concern about rates for service. Will they go up when you need help? We contacted AMR about that, so far, it says, the answer is no.
"Any rates that we charge have to be approved by the city, under the proposed agreement we're submitting, based on the preliminary information we've gotten on collection rates and um, rates for service they're currently charging, we do not anticipate extraordinary increases, based on that preliminary information," said Doug Moore, from AMR.
The company also added if the city wanted to add a new fleet or make other changes, then those numbers could change. But again, nothing is set in stone, and everything is still in the discovery stage.
