ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico lottery players may soon have another new game offering big jackpots.

In a special meeting Tuesday, the New Mexico Lottery's board of directors voted in favor of introducing another multi-state jackpot game called Mega Millions.

Currently, the only multi-state game offered in New Mexico is the 31-state Powerball. Mega Millions is played in 12 states and some of the biggest cities in the nation.

Tuesday's action means the lottery can now begin preparing marketing materials, training store clerks and developing software so that its 1,100 retailers can sell tickets and validate prizes.

Lottery officials said the goal is to be ready to sell Mega Millions by late January.

However, the Mega Millions and Powerball associations must still come to a final agreement on implementation issues before sales can start.
