AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Sgt. Kenny Gore of the Amarillo Police Department received a very prestigious award, the American Legion Department of Texas "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" and will travel to Austin in January to receive the award.

Post 54 of Amarillo nominated Gore due to his supervision during a high risk S.W.A.T. team situation where he and his team came under direct fire from an assault rifle. Gore's tremendous bravery helped the S.W.A.T. team accomplish their mission despite the danger involved.

Sgt. Gore is a 23 year veteran of the Amarillo Police Department and currently serves in the detective division.
