Texas Ag Commissioner along the president of the Texas Farm Bureau are encouraging people to vote yes in November

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Some high ranking Texas officials are touring the state in efforts to get voters to pass proposition 11 in the November state constitutional amendment election.

The Texas Ag Commissioner and the president of the Texas Farm Bureau along side Representative John Smithee and Senator Kel Seliger held a press conference at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association in Amarillo on Wednesday to promote proposition 11.

Proposition 11 according to officials, will help prevent the taking of property via eminent domain for economic development purposes.

"Texans fiercely defend and protect the rights of property owners, it's one of the most sacred rights we hold dear as Texans, but we know the ability for government to abuse this right is one of the most frightening, but Texans can do something about that, but in order for proposition 11 to pass, in order to protect the rights of property owners, to protect your property, we're reminding voters you have to go vote to do that," said Todd Staples, Texas Ag Commissioner.

The president of the Texas Farm Bureau gave the following example to put this issue in perspective for Texas Panhandle residents.

"There's going to be a lot of wind farms going in this part of the state, there has to be a method of developing a delivery of that electricity that's produced to the metropolitan areas, so it's real easy to see that transmission lines will have to go someplace and we think the property owners need to have a say in where they go and be protected when they do come across their property," said Kenneth Dierschke, President of the Texas Farm Bureau.

Early voting for this state constitutional amendment election ends this Friday October 30th while election day is set for November 3rd.
