AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Texas Department of Health reports that flu activity in Texas remains "wide spread" this past week. There might be some good news, region 1, which includes most of the Texas Panhandle, reported a decrease of flu activity compared to last week.
The new data released just minutes ago shows there have been 23 hospitalizations due to the H1N1 virus, 10 of those were admitted to an intensive care unit in our region. There have been two deaths reported to the health department, both in Lubbock County. We are working to confirm what counties those hospitalizations are located in.
Texas has been allocated 2 million vaccines for the swine flu, the health department said today the state continues to order the state's full allocation as quickly as possible. More than 1.5 million doses were ordered as of Thursday.
DSHS says 12,000 Texas providers have registered to receive the vaccine. More orders and shipments will proceed as doctors and clinics confirm their request.
State-wide there have been 46 deaths from influenza A or H1N1.
