Operation Uplink offers free phone calls
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Operation uplink was launched in 1996 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the program provides free phone time to active-duty military personnel and hospitalized veterans.
Keeping in touch with family members is very important to the families of our service members, the VFW said a simple phone call can be a vital link. The program initially provided calling cards to service members, due the growing popularity of the program they started hosting "Free Call Days" in 2006.
