Bushland officials are wondering if an employee or perhaps an ex-employee walked out of the office with highly confidential documents. Those documents were dropped off at Pronews 7.

The documents were from the "free lunch" program from 2003 to 2006. There was a note attached claiming the documents were found at a recycling center in Canyon, and that Pronews 7 should investigate. Social security numbers of students were visible and superintendent Don Wood says a full investigation is underway. Don Wood also said "Whoever did bring these in I appreciate that. I want to apologize to the parent. This is something that is definitely a breach of confidentiality. We have policies and procedures in place to make sure this does not happen."

State law says documents like these only need to be saved for three years. So the district was shredding the old files when somebody slipped away with a few. Superintendent Wood said he felt this was no accident, "We don't want to do anything to lose the public trust. We're dealing with their children and very precious information. We're going to own up to it if we find that we were at fault."

Wood also said that once the district establishes who leaked the documents they will consider legal action.
