A Clovis man has been convicted for attempting to sneak drugs into the Curry County Detention Center. Paul Apodaca, was convicted of one count of Conspiracy to Trafficking Narcotics into the prison, and was sentenced by the court to serve four years in the Department of Corrections.

The charges stem from an incident that happened back in October of 2008. When a Curry County Detention Officer noticed suspicious activity after a woman was seen going in and out of the lobby restroom at the jail. When the woman left, the Detention Officer went into the restroom and discovered a pink-balloon filled with narcotics. The Region 5 Drug Task Force Officers were called to investigate and found that the balloon was filled with cocaine, marijuana, tobacco, and prescription drugs. Officers were able to locate the woman, and she confessed to authorities that Paul Apodaca asked her to bring the drugs to the jail.
