A new policy aimed at young people will give them amnesty for underage drinking, if they need emergency medical attention. So that means minors will not be cited for that offense.
Wednesday, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said they don't want any life to be lost because someone is afraid of getting in trouble for being underage and drinking, and that's exactly what AISD said as well.
"This allows kids who have made a mistake to get help and make a better decision in the future. AISD is going to be promoting this with our kids, that not drinking is still the best choice you can make, however if you see someone who has made a bad choice, we want them to get help." said Melynn Huntley, the Safe School/Health Students Director with AISD.
The new law will also not cite minors if they have been a victim of sexual assault or a violent crime while drinking.
