AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A band of heavy snow combined with strong winds will move through the Texas Panhandle this morning.
The snow combined with the wind will reduce visibility to near zero. In addition, freezing drizzle has lead to numerous vehicles sliding off the road in Donley and Armstrong counties, extreme caution is advised for all travelers this morning!
Xcel Energy operations manager are meeting today to prepare for weather-related problems. Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy says they haven't experienced any major problems yet, but have been experiencing some outages in the Adrian-Wildorado area, with some reports of downed lines.
Wes Reeves with Xcel Energy also says they are continuing to get reports of outages in the Amarillo area, but most are momentary blinks. However, there is an outage in the I-40/Ross area caused by a light pole in El Alamo Park blowing over into some of our primary lines. Some of the motels and restaurants in that area are reportedly without power. Xcel workers are currently working on the problem to get it fixed.
