AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Unfortunately the Salvation Army is in critical need of donations even though the kettle or "bell ringer" campaign is slightly up. As of today, they are around 50% down on their mail in donations.
This makes up about 50% of their budget which has been hit hard the past couple of years. With this year's high demand, the decrease in funds could lead to more cuts in their social service programs.
Major Tim Grider says, "the funds that were available to help folks with rent, mortgage and utilities with food vouchers things like that, that's where we had to take that drastic cut this past year and so were hoping that we don't have to do that again this year because certainly the requests ah for this year versus this time last year have almost doubled."
On a positive note Major Grider added that the shelter and feeding programs would not be affected as much by the decrease in donations.
