AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Some Doctors say with the cold winter months comes your increased risk of having a heart attack.
The body senses the cold as stress, and releases adrenaline which raises your blood pressure, and increases your heart's workload.
Physicians say your risk will go up, especially if you exercise outdoors. Cardiologist Lowell Chaffin said, "Most people know if they go outside and exercise the demand for oxygen by the heart increases, so if you increase it with exercise and then you increase it because of cold weather you are adding to your risk of problems."
The doctor says the main way to protect yourself is to pay attention to what your body is telling you.
If you feel uncomfortably cold, get out of it, but if your body is adjusting nicely to the cold and you are dressed warmly, you should be fine.
