AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An Amarillo Police officer is recovering this morning after being hit by a suspects vehicle last night.
Amarillo Police say that around 12:40 a.m. officers saw what they believed to be a robbery in progress at the Toot n' Totum located at 1400 E Amarillo Blvd. As the officers approached the store they observed three suspects running from the store with beer. They chased the suspects to the ally. A pickup drove up the ally and two suspects jumped inside. A third suspect ran on foot. An officer chased him to the east on Amarillo Blvd. The pickup took off and drove up behind the officer hitting him with the truck and knocking him to the ground.
The pickup fled the scene, and officers began pursuit. They used spikes on the fleeing vehicle, causing the pickup to lose control and skid into a curb. Three juveniles were taken into custody at that location. The juvenile driver was arrested for Aggravated Assault on a peace officer. All three juveniles were placed at the High Plains Juvenile Detention Center. 17-year-old Daniel Sosa was booked in the Potter County Jail for evading arrest and organized criminal activity. The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
