PAMPA, TEXAS -- Just before one Monday morning Pampa Police attempted to stop a green Dodge pickup for a traffic offense in the 700 block of N. Faulkner. The passenger of the vehicle, Amber Loree Caviness exited the vehicle and the driver took off leading police on a chase through the area.
During the pursuit the pickup struck a fence and a road sign damaging the vehicle. The driver abandoned the vehicle near the intersection of Lincoln and Faulkner. Officers found a large cylinder of ammonia in the bed of the pickup. Anhydrous ammonia is a common ingredient used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Pampa firefighters responded to the scene to ensure the safety of the officers and citizens in the area.
Detectives were called in to investigate.
A short time later officers found Caviness on foot and arrested her. She is charged with the offense of Possession/Transportation of Certain Chemicals with Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 a 2nd Degree Felony. If convicted Caviness faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. This incident remains under investigation.
