AMARILLO, TEXAS -- All week on Pronews 7 we are taking a look back at the top headlines for the past ten years.
The year 2000 began with a bang and a threat of computer disaster worldwide. It was what everyone was talking about ten years ago. Is your computer safe from the Y2K virus? That same year the Marine Corps released information in April of a V-22 Osprey crash that killed 19 marines in Arizona. The accident was blamed on pilot error. Investigators found the pilot landed too quickly and at too steep an angle, causing the tilt-rotor plane to lose lift under its right rotor.
Also on the national scene, all eyes were focused on Florida as the final state to count its vote in the presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Hanging, split, punched, and partially torn chads on the ballots help up the election results for about a week.
And locally, Amarillo had a series of earthquakes, with the strongest being around 3.9 on the Richter scale, unnerving people here in the Panhandle.
