(AP) -- McALLEN, Texas (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White is campaigning in the Rio Grande Valley.

The former Houston mayor won't be the only candidate in the area Tuesday.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is scheduled to announce state funding for emerging technologies at the University of Texas-Pan American on Tuesday afternoon. Some in the White campaign are calling that more than a coincidence.

White started a day of campaign events with a breakfast event in McAllen hosted by U.S. Rep. Ruben Hinojosa. He criticized Perry's record on education.
