Sheriff's Department trading old weapons for new rifles

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Potter County Sheriff's Department is working on a pretty thrifty trade agreement. They are currently working a deal that will benefit the county and it won't cost taxpayers.

The county had an accumulation of older rifles that really no longer served the department. The sheriff's office decided to trade the weapons for five new ones.

"We're being frugal with the taxpayers money and again the big thing is we have all these weapons that are sitting here behind us that are sitting there collecting dust, and so we're going to be able to get rid of those out of our inventory get five that we're going to use and again there's no cost to the county," said Sheriff Brian Thomas, Potter County.

The Sheriff's department plans to outfit their new honor guard with the five new rifles.
