(AP) -- OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's two largest school districts have cancelled classes for the rest of the week because of sub-freezing temperatures that are expected as a winter storm moves through the region.
Oklahoma City school Superintendent Karl Springer and Tulsa Superintendent Keith Ballard both said in statements Wednesday that they were concerned about the safety of students who must wait outside for buses or who walk to school.
State Education Department spokeswoman Shelly Hickman says she didn't know if other districts in the state were going to cancel classes as well.
The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories for much of Oklahoma.
Temperatures are not expected to climb out of the teens and 20s during the day and will plummet into the single digits and below at night.
