AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas Lottery Commission has voted unanimously to add the big-money, multistate Powerball game to its offerings.

Lottery spokesman Bobby Heith says tickets for the twice-weekly game could go on sale in Texas as soon as Jan. 31. The San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle report that the state must first reach a game agreement with the Multi-State Lottery Association.

Powerball would join Mega Millions to give Texans two multistate games to play. The biggest Powerball jackpot ever was $365 million, compared to a Mega Millions record jackpot of $390 million.

Lottery Commission J. Winston Krause says the addition of Powerball is expected to add $35 million to the revenue the commission sends to the state education fund.
